Oscar nominated 'Life Is Beautiful' (La vita è bella) was filimed in and around Arezzo in 1997. Set in 1930's Italy, tells the story of a Jewish Italian, Guido Orefice (played by Roberto Benigni, who also directed and co-wrote the film), who must employ his fertile imagination to help his family survive their time in a Nazi concentration camp.
