During its long history, the village (followed Vellano’s destiny) had been given to the Garzoni family during a feud in 1333. It was later conqured by a member of the same family who gave it to Pisa in 1362, after only two years it was under Florence’s control.
The parish church of S.S. Giovanni and Tommaso which represents the most remarkable example of Romanesque architecture of the whole Valdinievole, is isolated from the village. It has three apses and three naves, the central one is covered with a ‘hut’ ceiling. At the beginning of the 20th century the church had been radically and not properly restored.
Another church dedicated to S. Giovanni Battista, situated inside the village keeps, amongst others, a precious painting on wood made at the end of the 15th century, representing the Madonna with child on a throne between S.S. Giovanni and Tommaso.
